I grew up in Delhi and did not really leave until I was thirty. School there, computer science at IIIT Delhi there, and then my whole early career a short drive away in Gurgaon. The first time I lived anywhere else was Ann Arbor, for the MBA at Michigan Ross in 2023. I live in San Francisco now, and I am enjoying it more than I expected to.

For the first stretch of my career I was the data and tools person. I wrote the SQL, built the models, and put together the things that made the analysis run. I was good at it and I liked it, but I was always one step removed from where the decisions got made.

That changed in 2021. I got pulled onto client sites as the technical and strategy thought partner for front-end case teams, sitting in the room rather than supporting it from outside. My first on-site project was at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant on the east coast of India. The problems shifted almost every day, the people around me were some of the sharpest I had worked with, and the work asked you to stay resourceful when the ground kept moving. I found I wanted to be in that room for good, not next to it. That is the year I decided to do an MBA, and I gave it one more year of that kind of work before applying.

Since then I have worked across strategy, operations, and product, and the technical side has stayed with me the whole way. I still write my own SQL and Python, and when an off the shelf tool does not do what I need, I build one. A lot of that building happens under MuggleTech, which I started with a few batchmates and named after exactly the Harry Potter thing you are thinking of.

Outside work, a fair amount of my time goes to my kitchen garden and to getting butter chicken right, which is harder than it sounds. On weekends I hike the Bluffs to Batteries trail, which is still the best argument I know for living in San Francisco. I am also slowly teaching myself guitar, and rewatching Harry Potter more often than a grown adult probably should.
